My World Cup Report

I’m really not much of a sports fan except of course now that I live in New England when the New England Patriots are in the Super Bowl or the Red Sox win the World Series, but those days are over. My co-workers have accurately labeled me as a post-season fan, hey, but at least I’m a loyal post-season fan. But when it comes to the World Cup is a bit different because: I’m Latino and have a perfect accent when yelling:
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
They respect the fact that I like futból and I don’t get harassed if I wake up at 2AM to watch a game as much as when I watched the World Series because somehow it’s in my blood. However, this is not totally true. I cannot say that my passion is soccer, because although I did grow up playing soccer in the streets (with a real soccer ball, not a coconut or orange like some crazies in Brazil) in Nicaragua, our national sport is baseball, so deep inside I love baseball more than any other sport.

It wasn’t until I immigrated to the US that I’ve come to socialize with Latin Americans from almost every country and have to come to share the passion and excitement that comes with World Cup. My wife’s family is from Ecuador and this is the second time in a row that Ecuador has qualified for the World Cup ever. It’s unbelievable what this game does for a country, Ecuador basically shuts down whenever there’s a game, I wish I was there. Obviously, I’ll support all the Latin American teams besides Ecuador, Mexico, Costa Rica (my neighbor country), Paraguay, Argentina and of course Brazil, and let’s not forget now, the northern part of the continent, USA. Let’s hope that the title stays in our continent, that’s all I ask. However, at the moment the most important thing is how I will watch the games during the week, especially since my country now doesn’t shutdown to watch the games. If I can’t watch them online from work, I will have to call in sick for the rest of the month. Anyways, here are the outcomes from the cup so far, good and bad according to me:
