   I’ve recently switched from Consolas to Inconsolata, which is similar to Consolas, though more narrow, and Free as in {speech, beer} to boot.

   Thanks Edward. I want to give Inconsolata a try, but I can’t find a .ttf file for Windows. Do you use it in Windows? I’ll have to try on my Linux machine first.

   I got Consolas working under Ubuntu Feisty by using the script on this post. Easy.
   
   Inconsolata is available in Gutsy, but has not been back-ported to Feisty. However, you can go to its homepage and download the .otf file and simply copy to your ~/.fonts directory and run fc-cache -fv ~/.fonts.

   Rob, yes.. Consolas is working great on Feisty and I can’t wait for Gutsy.

   I’ve been using Consolas (8pt) for quite some time now, and I love it. It’s always an unhappy occasion when I have to use someone else’s computer and leave Consolas behind.
