I haven't finished it yet, but a friend gave me a copy of Everything is Miscellaneous (http://www.amazon.com/Everything-Miscellaneous-Power-Digital-Disorder/dp/0805080430/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-0219590-2831125?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1191681753&sr=8-1)
to read. It's not aimed at a particularly technical audience, and it's not about the Semantic Web per se.

But it does touch on the Semantic Web and it is a great read, and it does seem to present many of the motivating underlying factors that push many of us towards the Semantic Web.

@Lee: I believe it's more about the Semantic Web. How does someone come to understand the benefits of the Semantic Web like you and I understand them.

Do you have a link to the SWEO Information Gathering task efforts/drafts?

@Tom: I'll definitely recommend Shelley's book. I'll be watching.

Shelley Powers' Practical RDF isn't bad, but it would be better if it substituted most of it's use of RDF/XML for Notation3.

As for a book on the Semantic Web? Well, watch this space...

Are you (/ is your friend) looking for books about The Semantic Web? Or a book about Semantic Web technologies? Or a book about semantics?

In any case, the SWEO Information Gathering task might be a decent place to start, though I agree that I think the SW world is light on dead-tree books.
